GPR Basics

What is Ground Penetrating RADAR?

Ground Penetrating RADAR or GPR is a geophysical method that has been used for subsurface exploration for over 35 years. GPR can typically be performed using various techniques from Satellites to surface scans. Until recently GPR was typically used to map subsoil properties, water tables, and location of subsurface objects.

Where is our RADAR system typically employed?

Our RADAR system has been employed in a variety of structures for the location of cores in buildings, such as, warehouses, high rise condominiums, arenas, office buildings, communication buildings, and hospitals to name a few. Our system has also been employed on prison walls, dams, nuclear power plants and schools for determining the location of various objects required by our client.

What are some of the Applications for our RADAR system?

The primary application our firm uses the RADAR system for is to determine safe areas to core or saw cut without damaging the contents of the concrete. In addition to this we can evaluate block walls for the presence or lack of grout and steel, detect voids, locate underground utilities, assist in structural analysis, locate buried drums and UST's, and evaluate beams for proper anchor installation locations.

Assist In Structural Analysis

Ground Penetrating RADAR can be used to assist in determining the contents of concrete structures. This non invasive technique provides information to determine if a structure is in accordance with project specifications or if  it has sufficient steel for future modifications.

Outdoor Evaluations

With a 50MHz to  900MHz antenna we can perform many evaluations from simple utility locations to archeological mapping to cemetery evaluations. Any change in soil conditions is going to show up on a GPR Survey
