GPR vs X-RAY

Before cutting, coring, or drilling any concrete, certain steps should be taken. The two common and effective non-destructive methods are concrete x ray and Ground Penetrating Rader (GPR). There are advantages and disadvantages attached to both, and it is important to understand their differences and benefits to make the right choice.

GPR waves are equal to 0.01% of waves discharged from a cell phone while X-rays needs a 50 feet clearance before usage for security reasons. Generally, GPR is the better cost-effective option and the faster method of concrete testing. The clarity of GPR is high but does not give the same resolution in concrete as x-ray scanning. Concrete slab x rays target elevated slabs or the renovation of concrete wall surfaces where both side of the structure are accessible. When you need to produce images of the subsurface internals of a concrete slab for accuracy, concrete slab x rays and GPR will give the same results. Although X ray concrete scanning consumes time, it also offers the best image quality. Furthermore, GPR only requires access to a particular section of the concrete slab as compared to x ray concrete scanning that requires both sections of the x ray concrete slab to be accessed.
